A “DANGEROUS” thug sliced through a man’s arm with a kitchen knife during a family row at a Southampton property, a court heard

Joe Slack attacked his sister’s boyfriend during an argument in Queensway.

She had been out shopping in the city when she returned home to find Slack at her home, acting “agitated” and appearing intoxicated.

Prosecuting, James Kellam told Southampton Crown Court how the 28-year-old began asking if they knew anyone he could rob.

When his sister called her parents for help the row spilled out into the street.

Slack then began swinging a knife at his sister's partner slashing his arm when he went to defend himself.

The defendant then fled the scene but was arrested by police nearby.

Meanwhile, the victim required stitches for his “grave injury” and has suffered since the attack.

Slack pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

At his sentencing on Monday, mitigating, Timothy Compton said his client has “suffered from mental health difficulties for some years”.

“[He was] clearly very unwell on the day of the incident.

“He is an unfortunate young man who has had an unfortunate upbringing.”

But Judge Gary Burrell KC said this is the fourth conviction Slack has had for using weapons, adding that the knife was “highly dangerous”.

“[He] could have killed this man if he hadn’t put his arm up to protect himself.

“He is unquestionably a disturbed young man. He will have to go to prison because he is dangerous.”

For the offences dating from April this year, Slack, of Christchurch Road, Bournemouth, was jailed for five years.

He will serve two years on licence after he is released from prison.
