HUNDREDS of toys are heading to children who would otherwise go without this Christmas, thanks to the Southampton Sikh Toy Appeal.

On Saturday afternoon (December 17), toy appeal volunteers will be at the Gurdwara Khalsa Darbar, Southampton’s Sikh Resource Centre in Burgess Road, where families in need can collect toys.

The Specsavers Chandlers Ford and Eastleigh stores have been drop off points for the appeal in recent weeks.

Minal Thaker, a director at the stores, is on the local Toy Appeal committee, helping to raise funds, donations and awareness of the charity so that children from deprived backgrounds or who are in hospital can open a present on the big day.

She said: "Many of us are looking forward to Christmas, but there are some families who will have nothing. We’re trying to ensure that as many as possible receive something for their children."

Any families in need of presents this Christmas can email the Toy Appeal at southampton@thetoyappeal.org and register to receive gifts.
