A NEW 5G mast could be built in a Southampton neighbourhood should plans be approved by civic chiefs.
An application has been submitted to Southampton City Council to install an 18m high 5G mast in Kingsdown Way.
CK Hutchinson Networks (UK) Ltd wants to put the mast in and said it will increase download times and "lead to a more predictable and consistent performance".
No objections have been made and a decision is yet to be made on the plans.
Last month, residents from Hythe celebrated a "victory for people power" after halting the construction of a giant 5G mast that would have towered over their homes.
A 24m pylon was due to be built beside Southampton Road - one of the main routes through the village.
The protesters stood between a crane and another part of the site for more than two hours to prevent the construction from taking place.
