The festive period often sees a few changes in the opening days and hours for shops, as many businesses want to give their staff a bit of a break.

A fair few still open back up on Boxing Day once Christmas Day is concluded, with many people wanting to make the most of the deals in the build-up to the New Year.

However, some will still remain shut on December 26th. If you are planning to go shopping on that day then it might be useful to know which chains will be shut so you don't have a wasted journey.

Here are some of the businesses that will be remaining shut on Boxing Day.

What shops will remain closed on Boxing Day?

Aldi

Aldi has confirmed it will be closing on Boxing Day this year to show its appreciation towards staff members.

Kelly Stokes, Recruitment Director at Aldi UK, said: “Our amazing colleagues play a vital role in keeping our shelves stocked year-round which is why, once again, we’ll also be keeping our stores closed on Boxing Day as a thank you for all of their hard work.”

Home Bargains

Home Bargains announced back in October that they would remain shut on Boxing Day to allow staff to spend time with their family.

In a statement on Facebook, the retailer said: "All of our stores will be closing for Boxing Day and New Year's Day. We would like to thank all our staff for how hard you have worked this past year, and want you to relax and enjoy the Christmas break with your loved ones."

Iceland

Iceland and its off-shoot brand The Food Warehouse also announced back in October that they would be shut on Boxing Day.

The supermarket's managing director, Richard Walker, tweeted: "We’ll be closing all our Iceland and Food Warehouse stores on Boxing Day, to give our colleagues a well-earned rest with their friends & families."

Poundland

The budget retailer will shut its doors on Boxing Day, which will be the third year in a row they have done so.

Simon Wells, Poundland & Dealz’ people director, said: “We really appreciate how hard colleagues work during the year and are closing the stores on the extra days over Christmas and New Year so they enjoy a well-deserved break with friends and family."

Pets at Home

Pets at Home will also be shut on Boxing Day for the third year in a row, although some vet practices within their stores will remain open.

Chief executive Lyssa McGowan said: “Our people are at the heart of everything we do, and the decision to close our stores once again on Boxing Day is just one small way of saying thank you.

Other closures

Outside of the previously mentioned brands, Lidl, M&S and Waitrose will also not open on Boxing Day.
