The New Year has brought the same old issues for one fire station in Southampton.

Once again, St Mary's fire crews are having to put up with parked cars blocking access to and from the station - potentially putting lives at risk.

A picture of a silver vehicle dumped outside the entrance used by fire engires has been shared on Twitter with a rather sarcastic caption.

"If only there was a sign saying no stopping. Or maybe some yellow lines?" a spokesperson said.

The incident comes just days after another inconsiderate motorist left their car on the yellow zig-zag lines outside the station.

A tweet calling out their actions on Christmas Eve read: "Hopefully Father Christmas will deliver some glasses to the driver of this car tonight!".

Bad parking outside St Mary's Fire Station has been a problem for years.

Speaking in May, Station Manager, Nev Lewendon, said: "The issue of motorists blocking the paths of emergency services vehicles is worse than ever before.

"It isn’t only drivers stopping by station exits and leaving their cars on our grounds, we are also impacted by cars parked opposite one another on certain roads, making those roads inaccessible.

"We are acutely aware of the difference that can be made in the safety of those who summon our help in being delayed even by such small amounts of time."
