A CHARITY fire walk will take place in front of Southampton's historic city walls next month.

The second annual event, on Saturday February 4, is in aid of Maggie's, the centre in the grounds of University Hospital Southampton supporting people with cancer, as well as their family and friends.

It marks the second anniversary of the centre's launch, World Cancer Day and will raise much-needed funds.

Anyone in the Southampton area can get involved with the fire walk, which involves walking barefoot on hot embers, designed to help transform fear and inspire people to do things they didn’t think possible.

Will Ham, Maggies Southampton’s Fundraising Manager, said: "Firewalking is an ancient ritual practised around the world to demonstrate strength, courage, and faith.

"Many participants who fire walk report experiencing a huge mind-shift when they realise that they can overcome their fear and go on to apply new insights to situations in their lives which they wish to change."

Participants, aged at least 16, will register at 6pm, followed by a seminar and the walk itself at 8.30pm.

Anyone wanting to get involved can sign up at eventbrite.co.uk/e/maggies-southampton-fire-walk-2023-tickets-415834992657

Based near to University Hospital Southampton’s oncology centre, a leader in cancer research and a global centre of excellence, Maggies will receive 20,000 visits annually when fully established.

For many of the 5,000 people who get diagnosed at Southampton each year, a cancer diagnosis will mean exhausting treatment, tough questions, and difficult emotions. This is where Maggie’s comes in. Set in a peaceful garden, it is a warm and welcoming place with qualified professionals on hand to offer support.
