A 'LITTLE visitor' was spotted swimming in the River Itchen this weekend.

A seal was seen poking its head above the water on Saturday afternoon.

Resident Holly Copper took a picture of the mammal from her balcony on Hawkeswood Road.

She said the seal was swimming towards Northam Bridge.

After sharing the snap on Facebook, many expressed their delight at the sighting.

One person commented: "Well spotted," while another said: "That's amazing".

The sighting comes just weeks after a fisherman and his family were taken aback after coming across a walrus chilling on Calshot Beach.

Darren Mckell, his wife Caroline, and their son Luke were out fishing in the early hours when they saw the huge mammal, nicknamed Thor.
