A HAMPSHIRE MP has vowed a new police station will open in Eastleigh - if he gets his way.

Conservative MP for Eastleigh, Paul Holmes, said he is "committed" to seeing a new walk-in station in the borough.

Donna Jones, Police and Crime Commissioner for Hampshire and Isle of Wight, has been in discussions with Mr Holmes after the pair went on a walkabout in Eastleigh.

Speaking to the Echo, Mr Holmes said: “I spoke to residents, and I’ve wanted a new police station to open for quite a while and I made my feelings very clear to Donna Jones that’s what residents want.

“She gave me assurance she would go away and look at it.

"She was open that a front desk accessible police station is something residents want and committed to having a look and seeing what she can do”.

Mr Holmes said he spoke with Ms Jones about anti-social behaviour, and his bid for a new station. Hampshire police's strategic headquarters is in Leigh Road, Eastleigh.

When asked by the Echo if a new police station could open in Eastleigh, Ms Jones said: “To support new officers, we are reviewing the police estate.

“We have a police station in Boyatt Wood, a building owned by Eastleigh Borough Council, but I am considering neighbourhood police bases across the county on high streets.”

Ms Jones confirmed that she would be reviewing locations and a number of front desks across the county, which would include one in Eastleigh.

The call for a new station comes after a series of violent incidents have hit the town over the past few years.

In May last year, a 40-year-old man was threatened at knifepoint by three men and chased from Tichborne Road junction to Argosy Crescent.

In October a 64-year-old man was jailed after he stole underwear and clothes during a burglary at a house on Bright Wire Crescent.
