From parades to football and shows to illuminations, here's our guide to how to keep the kids entertained.

Chinese New Year celebrations

Daily Echo:

Southampton will once again be bursting with red and golden colours as Chinese New Year celebrations return.

To mark the year of the rabbit, the Chinese community will be putting on free shows and workshops across the city.

The Chinese New Year celebration will last 16 days, starting tomorrow.

The opening event takes place in Guildhall Square and MAST and will be packed with public displays, including traditional lion and dragon dance performances.

Children will also have a chance to take part in the free cultural and craft workshops.

Along with their friends, they can take part and learn how to play Chinese chess, lantern-making, paper-cutting and rabbit-moulding.

On Sunday, there will be a free staged show inside Westquay from 11.30am until 4pm.

Visitors will be able to see and take part in a Kungfu display, Taichi, Chinese folk songs, dance, and other cultural performances, as well as a range of workshops.
