A SUMMIT is set to take place in Southampton to discuss making sure the city is ready for the future of business.

The Future of Work event is being organised by Southampton City Council for January 31.

Its leader, Councillor Satvir Kaur, said there are "significant economic opportunities ahead" and the authority must help make this happen.

She said any growth must benefit people in the city.

She said: "Across the Southampton area, there is a growing movement of innovators, entrepreneurs, businesses, academics, and organisations who are responding to a complex economic landscape – here and abroad.

“As a council, we need to facilitate the right conditions to empower our businesses and residents to thrive in this evolving world; to grasp the opportunities and adapt to changing circumstances.

“Everything from our Local Plan, the set-up of the Solent Freeport to becoming a destination and Green City, there are significant economic opportunities ahead for Southampton and the wider area.

“Crucially, local growth must be felt by local people, delivering positive outcomes for our residents and environment.”

The summit will include talks, panel discussions and sprint sessions. The keynote speaker will be Andrew Carter, Chief Executive of the Centre for Cities.

He will be focusing on the factors that will help shape Southampton’s economic future.

There are still tickets available for the event. It is taking place at MAST Mayflower Studios.

People who cannot attend in person can still watch on a live stream. For tickets and to register to watch online, see ticketing.mayflowerstudios.org.uk
