THIS is the "special moment" a seal was seen hunting for food in the River Hamble.

The marine mammal was spotted by Paul Willis, a member of the Daily Echo camera club, near the shoreline.

On Facebook, he posted: "One of those special moments.

"After many years walking along the Hamble River, I had never seen the seal.

"Grey Seal came really close to the shoreline and stayed for over an hour, during which time it caught 4 flatfish."

After sharing the snap on Facebook, many expressed their delight at the sighting.

One person commented: "Well spotted and captured."

The sighting comes just weeks after another resident spotted a seal swimming in the River Itchen

Resident Holly Copper took a picture of the mammal from her balcony on Hawkeswood Road.

She said the seal was swimming towards Northam Bridge.
