PLANS to transform Town Quay into a world-class waterfront with bars, restaurants and a nine-storey hotel have been unveiled.
Nicolas James Group, the same firm that built the Harbour Hotel in Ocean Village, is looking to redevelop the area with a £200 million investment.
Its plans include building three apartment blocks with 500 flats, underground parking, restaurants, food halls, a large new marina, a new landmark hotel, bar, conference, and spa facilities.
However, in a scoping application submitted by the council, there are plans to build four tower blocks with 380 flats.
While the developer's proposals are still in the early stages, thousands of jobs are expected to be created.

Entrepreneur Nicolas Roach, who owns the company, said: "Having lived, studied, and worked in Southampton, I have shared the frustration that our city lacks a destination waterfront.
"A large, quality city deserves one, and people need to recognise how far Southampton has come and where it can go.
"There are many places in the UK where we can invest, but the city has a vision supported by strong political and business leadership.
"We delivered in Ocean Village and will do so in Town Quay.
"We want this place to be where families can go on a Sunday for a walk, have a meal, stop at cafes, restaurants, or parks, and have a good time.
"We are still at an early stage because we want to hear what other people in the city think and we want to do a full consultation, but broadly, this is looking good.
"I am so positive about Southampton, and I am relocating our entire head office to our newly refurbished Harbour House in Town Quay."

The project will go under public consultation in late February. If approved, work is expected to start next year.
Plans have already been presented to civic chiefs and local councillors.
Cllr Satvir Kaur, the leader of Southampton City Council, said: "As a council, we are committed to making the most of our waterfront, with more public access.
"These early plans give an opportunity to create a world-class waterfront destination in Southampton while helping to grow our local economy and create local jobs.
"I’m keen to see these plans progress and maximise the opportunities they could bring to our city."
