A DRIVER has appeared in court over a crash in a supermarket car park that led to a woman having her knee amputated.

Malcolm Rogers, 78, of Kathleen Road, entered no plea as he appeared at Southampton Magistrates' Court facing a charge of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

The court heard two women were injured. Rogers faces a single charge of serious injury by dangerous driving.

Prosecuting, Natalie Angel said: “One victim had to have a knee amputation and suffered fractured ribs, while the other suffered a traumatic brain injury.”

The crash happened on December 1, 2021 at the Tesco store on Hamble Lane, Bursledon.

It sparked a huge emergency response, with an air ambulance, police, fire crews, and paramedics on the scene.

Rogers will appear before Southampton Crown Court on March 3.

He was granted unconditional bail by the magistrates.
