A PRESCHOOL has been told it must improve following issues with leadership.

Woodlands Pre-School has been rated requires improvement by Ofsted.

The school, at Netley Marsh Community Hall, was previously rated 'inadequate'.

Two out of four categories - personal development and leadership and management - were rated 'requires improvement'.

The other two categories - quality of education and behaviours and attitudes - were rated 'good'.

At the time of the inspection, on January 5, the school had 34 children aged between two and four years old on roll.

The report, published on February 3, found that the manager does not ensure that all recruitment processes are "completed efficiently".

This means that some records are not up to date.

Despite this, the manager has put in place an "effective system" to provide staff with regular supervision opportunities.

Inspectors found that new committee members have not fully completed and submitted appropriate forms in a "timely manner".

However, inspectors say the impact on children's safety is "minimised".

Other committee members have limited responsibilities at this time and no unsupervised contact with children.

Inspectors said that the manager and staff provide good educational programmes for children.

They found that children enjoy mixing paint and enjoy talking about the different colours they have created.

The report states that partnerships with parents are "central to the pre-school".

Children's learning and development is shared with parents on a regular basis and the school provides activities to extend children's learning at home.

Inspectors said that children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) are "supported well".

They added that staff "act promptly" to ensure that any children needing additional support in their learning or with identified SEND, gain access to their entitlement.

Children at the school were described as "happy and secure" with inspectors adding that they have a "warm, nurturing relationships with their key person".

A Woodlands Pre-school  spokesperson said: "“We are pleased with the great improvement in our latest Ofsted report.

"It reflects the enormous amount of work by the staff and committee to improve our provision.

"We are particularly pleased with the ‘good’ outcomes in the areas of ‘quality of education’ and ‘behaviour and attitudes’, and we continue to work closely with the local authority to build on the progress we have already made and to further improve in all areas.

"We would like to thank our parents who have continually supported us through this period.”
