Southampton has been named among the 'top 50 worst places to live in England' for 2023.

It ended up ranking 22nd in the annual list by the satirical website iLiveHere.co.uk, where the opinions of over 105,000 people were considered.

Voting took place from the end of 2022 into January 2023 and the results were finally announced late on Monday, February 6.

The full list can be seen on the ILiveHere website, which also has a video breaking down the top 10.

Southampton was also on the list in 2022, but it ranked in 50th place then, so it has seen a fairly significant drop.

We at the Daily Echo strongly disagree with the list - and this is why

What did ILiveHere have to say about Southampton?

On its specific Southampton page, ILiveHere said: "Unfulfilled? Tired of waiting to win the lottery? Has that dream partner not yet walked into your life?

"Fear not, dear reader, for the solution to all your problems can be found at the southern end of the M3, where sits a gem in the firmament of anglo-saxon jewels, a veritable Shangri-La of a mythical paradise, a city of dreams: Southampton."

Potshots were aimed less at the city itself and more at some of the suburbs and conurbations.

Shirley High Street, Townhill Park, Midanbury and Northam were the areas specifically singled out for sarcastic criticism on the page.

Despite Southampton appearing on the list, many people who live in the area itself would not agree with the placement.

From the beauty of places like the Ocean Village and city centre to fine dining options and the Mayflower Theatre, there are lots of great spots to the city.
