WEAPONS have been found in an area of Southampton woodland.

A police cordon was set up yesterday on Mansbridge Road in Swaythling.

Officers have now confirmed that a bag containing three firearms was found by workmen in the area.

Police and forensic teams arrived at the scene yesterday afternoon.

A cordon was put in place around an area of woodland opposite Ozzy's Kebab Van.

A spokesperson from Hampshire Constabulary said: "We were called at about 1.30pm yesterday (9 February) to an area of woodland off Mansbridge Road.

"During ongoing work in the area by Southampton City Council, a workman discovered a bag containing three firearms.

"Officers attended and a thorough search of the area was conducted.

"No further items were found and there is not believed to be any wider risk to the public at this time.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish where the firearms came from."
