A MAN has been left needing seven stitches after being hit with a hammer during a robbery in Southampton

The 30-year-old was walking to BP garage on Burseldon Road when he was attacked by three men.

One of them hit him on the head with a hammer, leaving him with a head wound that needed seven stitches.

A Tag Heuer Aquaracer watch was reported stolen.

The robbery took place on Saturday at around 1am.

Hampshire police are now appealing for witnesses.

The men are described as aged 20 to 30, white, around 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, slim to medium built, with dark cropped hair and a short skin fade on the sides. All three were wearing sportswear.

Inspector Stuart Baker from the Southampton East Neighbourhoods Policing Team said: "This was an unprovoked attack on a member of the public and will understandably cause concern in the community.

"We have stepped up patrols in the area and are working hard to identify those involved.

"You can help us—so if you saw what happened, have any footage that shows the moments before or after—whether that is a mobile, dash cam, or CCTV—or know who the men involved were, please get in touch.

"Call us on 101 or report online, quoting 44230058362."
