A Southampton couple has been left "shocked and angry" after a hit and run driver flew out of a side road and smashed into their car.

Simone Adams, 28, has spoken about the traumatic ordeal that left her, her partner, and her friend with soft tissue damage in their neck, back, arms, and legs.

The trio were driving back to Shirley Warren when a grey Citroen C3 sped out of Landguard Road and smashed into their white Mercedes on Hill Lane.

Three men clambered out of the car and ran off, leaving Simone, her partner Alex and friend Gemma in a destroyed and smoking wreck.

"It happened in milliseconds," Simone said.

"I remember driving and then seeing this car within a second shoot out into the road.

"The next thing I remember is the smoke and the airbags from the car.

"I don't think I really registered at first.

"I undid my seat belt and got out of the car and saw two boys legging it down the road.

"I then saw another boy get out of the car and that's the only one I was able to get a good look at."

The crash happened at around 1.45am on Monday, February 20.

She described the latter as being in his 20s with long, wavy, mousey-brown hair and was wearing a grey hoodie.

The couple's £12,000 Mercedes was so severely damaged that it was written off.

However, the pair's insurance policy covers accidents involving uninsured drivers.

Now, Simone is appealing to residents in the area to share CCTV footage from that night in the hope to catch the culprits.

She added: "I am anxious to drive my own car, I have PTSD from a crash a few years ago and it is bringing back a lot of flashbacks for me.

"I'm angry, I think about my nieces and nephews, if they had hit them or if they had hit a family with kids in the car.

"I'm just shocked, I really hope that enough pressure is put on them that they will just turn themselves in."

Police have confirmed they were called out at 1.52am on Monday to a report of a crash at the junction of Landguard Road.

A spokesperson said: "A grey Citroen was involved in a collision with a white Mercedes-Benz. No injuries were reported.

"However, the occupants of the Citroen fled the scene on foot.
