A MAN has been released from custody after a Saints fan suffered serious injuries at St Mary's Stadium in an assault.
On Wednesday, police arrested a 28-year-old Southampton man on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.
A man in his early 50s suffered serious head injuries.
The incident came after Southampton FC were beaten 2-1 by League Two side Grimsby Town.
As reported, one witness said the victim was punched in front of his two children.
A spokesperson for Hampshire police said: "The man has been released on initial police bail.
"The investigation is ongoing."
