Nothing says a classic British meal quite like a fish supper but where are the best places for a chippy in Southampton?
We asked Daily Echo readers on Facebook what fish and chips shops they thought were the best in Southampton.
A number of places received multiple mentions so here's a breakdown of some of the best as voted for by you.
Best Southampton fish and chip shops according to readers
Harefield Fish Bar
First, we're heading near the outskirts of Southampton for this one, with Harefield Fish Bar receiving many mentions on the Facebook post.
Established in 2015 Harefield Fish Bar says its aim is to "provide our community with the best Fish and Chips shop using responsibly sourced ingredients".
"Our vision is to create the best, most authentic fish and chips shop in the South by providing the freshest, tastiest fish, chips and much much more," it adds on its website.
People seem to agree, with it receiving a 4.5/5 rating from 22 reviews on its Tripadvisor page also.
The Fish Station
Next up we're taking a visit to the heart of the city centre with The Fish Station on East Street.
It received seven recommendations on the Facebook post and has also been well-received on Tripadvisor with an overall rating of 4.5/5 from 39 reviews.
One reviewer said: "Often visit for meals, my opinion best fish and chips in town. Very friendly, when people ask for a decent chippy I always say the Fish Station."
Mike's Fish and Chips
Another establishment that has garnered a decent reputation in Southampton city centre is Mike's Fish and Chips on Queensway.
Receiving several mentions on the Facebook post, it has also got a good score of 4.5/5 on Tripadvisor from 245 ratings.
One reviewer wrote: "Amazing amazing fish and chips. Simple looking cafe but don’t let that fool you. The food is delicious and the price isn’t bad too. Everyone that lives in or visits Southampton should come here."
Giddy Kipper
Located over in Maybush, the Giddy Kipper is one establishment that received a few mentions on the Facebook post.
One reader commented: "Giddy kipper, Warren Ave are the best."
It seems to be a place that is held in high regard by those who are local to it, so if you're in Maybush it may be worth giving it a try.
St James Fish Bar
St James Fish Bar was a popular choice among readers, as it received 16 mentions on the Facebook post.
One reader posted: "the chips are delicious and they do great gf options too."
Another said: "St James fish bar absolutely fab service n fab food. Friendly staff who know what I want as soon as I enter the shop."
Starfish Bar
Located over on Kendal Avenue in Millbrook is the Starfish Bar which appears to have garnered a decent reputation among locals.
It had quite a few mentions on the Facebook post, with one reader commenting: "Star fish bar in Kendal ave Millbrook are just the best!! Staff are lovely too!!"

Another was also very complimentary and said: "Kendal avenue chip shop in Millbrook....by a long shot."
