THAMPTON-based company celebrating its 30th anniversary has unveiled plans to expand domestically and internationally.

Dynamic Load Monitoring (UK), which makes force measurement equipment, is staging a series of events to mark three decades of successful trading.

These include a staff away day and a special event in the summer, when managing director Martin Halford will complete 14 years of ownership.

He said: "I don’t think we would ever move our head office from Southampton.

"We are outgrowing our current premises so we will need more space soon, but we would likely stay in the area.

"I could see us opening other offices overseas in the future, or even in the north of the country, but our manufacturing hub will always be here."

DLM makes a range of equipment including load cells, which capture vital data as tension is applied to lifting and marine equipment.

Some of the cells measure the force experienced by underwater vessels used to lay cables. Others determine the weight of a load hanging from a crane.

Turnover has risen sharply since 2009, when Mr Halford and his father Jeff acquired what was then a business based in a converted barn.

A marine sales division was created in 2015 and the company moved into new offices two years later. Today it employs 25 staff and operates in Singapore as well as the UK.

Mr Halford said: "We bought the business on October 1 2009 and I started the following month.

"My father was working in the offshore industry and joined me five years later, retiring last year. I had no idea how to buy a business and didn’t really think it was possible, but that’s history now."

The company is based at Bridgers Farm in Nursling.

Listing some of Southampton's selling points Mr Halford cited the port and the recent go-ahead for plans to create a Solent Freeport.

He added: "There seems to be a bit of investment coming into the region now, although a lot of our growth will remain global.

"We are constantly innovating and looking at how our products can be better.

"We want to position ourselves as the prominent load cell manufacturer in the lifting industry and continue to be known for offering custom solutions to clients’ requirements."

"Longer term, we aim to be the key equipment supplier to the offshore cable-laying industry and offer a complete package to clients."
