RESIDENTS have backed plans to build nearly 300 new homes in Townhill Park as part of a major regeneration scheme.
Around 100 residents responded to a survey on the next stage of regeneration plans in the area which is expected to see 273 new homes created. Two thirds showed support.
More than 300 parking spots will also be created as part of plots two, nine and ten with a mix of one, two and three-bedroom apartments and four-bedroom homes.
Of those surveyed, 59 per cent said they do not object to plans for plot two, 61 per cent in plot nine and 63 per cent for plot 10.
The most important design considerations for respondents were access, parking, building design, appearance, energy, sustainability and landscape proposals.
As reported, 56 new homes have been delivered as part of the regeneration of more than 600 planned properties.
So far £3.75million worth of neighbourhood improvements have been delivered in Townhill Park including traffic-calming measures and a new green space in Townhill Green.
Housing cabinet member Councillor Lisa Mitchell told the Echo she is pleased the Townhill scheme has reached the next stage.
She said: "There were a number of really productive consultation events with residents late last year on the plans for the next plots in line for development and I'm glad that local people have finally had the chance to have their say on these plans.
"It seems that we had a lot of positive feedback which is great, but I know that residents raised some issues which will be looked at.
"The next stage is to respond to this feedback and hopefully take forward a planning application for these plots."

The council's contractor, Drew Smith, will now complete a detailed final report on the work which will be included in the future planning application for the three sites.
Residents will have a further opportunity to comment on the detail of the planning application as part of the usual planning process.
