A construction company that owes millions has been named and shamed as a tax defaulter.

Bitterne-based The Pioniers Construction Group has been named firms that have been fined for not paying tax.

Government data shows the company received penalties based on more than £160,000  in unpaid taxes.

The company must pay for failing to comply with tax obligations or deliberately filling errors in tax returns.

Director Irena Goraj defaulted on taxes between January 1 2018 and September 30 2021 - a period spanning over three years.

Prior to being named on the tax defaulters list, The Pioniers, which operated from Bitterne Road West, previously owed millions as it racked up debt.

Documents seen by the Echo from Companies House reveal the company owed a total debt of £4,988,428 in 2020.

The company’s debt increased the following year, rising to £5,673,504.

And five years after its inception in 2016, the company faced being struck off the register in October 2021.

The first Gazette notice reads: “The Registrar of Companies gives notice that, unless cause is shown to the contrary, the company will be struck off the register and dissolved not less than two months from the date shown above.”

The dissolution of the company was suspended in October 2021 following an objection.

The company is listed as active on Companies House but it has no online profile.

Companies House says its accounts are overdue and have not been updated since 2021, while a confirmation statement is also overdue.

This was due to be submitted by June 2021.

HMRC publishes details of deliberate tax defaulters, those that have received penalties for deliberate errors in their tax returns or deliberately failing to comply with their tax obligations.

Information is published if the person has been charged one or more penalties for deliberate defaults and if those penalties involve tax of more than £25,000.
