SOUTHAMPTON residents are looking ahead to their street parties for King Charles III’s coronation in May.
Residents have had over a month to submit applications for road closures, with Southampton City Council so far receiving 43 requests.
The official number is still to be confirmed as residents look forward to the big day.
Mary Bell, 73, who lives in Amberley Close, said: “Last year for the Queen’s Jubilee we had around 80 people join our street party so it would be nice if we could get those sort of numbers again.
“We’re having our street party on the Sunday as most people will want to be at home watching the Coronation on the Saturday.
“Plus, we figured by having it on the Sunday, people will be off work on the bank holiday Monday, so they can enjoy the celebrations for a little while longer!
“I’ve done every street party since I can remember.
“I actually said that last year was going to be my last year, but when the King’s Coronation was announced friends said, ‘Mary please do it again this year’, so I am!
“The death of the Queen was devastating last year but we have to show support to the King and the Queen Consort.
“It’s brilliant to bring everyone together during events like these.”

The three-day bank holiday weekend marking the coronation will take place from May 6 to May 8, with The Coronation Big Lunch taking place on the Saturday – an initiative made possible by The National Lottery.
The special event brings millions of people together annually to boost community spirit and reduce loneliness.
