Peter Crouch spent a bit of time living in Southampton whilst playing for the Premier League side between 2004 and 2005 and has recently spoken about the nightlife on his podcast.
On his 'That Peter Crouch Podcast' the former footballer was joined by his usual co-host Chris Stark and football analyst Statman Dave on an episode titled 'That Conspiracy Theories Episode'.
Before they started getting into the main gist of the episode Dave brought up a feature at a nightclub he had been to in Belgium, in which they had a 'Happiness Stand' for people who were a bit too drunk.
This involved giving people water and satsumas to help sober them up a bit before they went back on the dancefloor, and this caused Chris to mention the Southampton nightclub Jesters.
From Jesters to Jumpin' Jaks
Chris had studied at the University of Southampton and in the podcast episode said Jesters was a "legendary place" that he had gone to that was also "proudly s***".
In response, Peter said he had never gone there but had "good times" at Jumpin' Jaks over at Leisure World which is now set to be demolished.
He went on: "I was a young player at the time, 22 or 23 at Southampton, and Claus Lundekvam (another Saints player), who was about 30, he found himself at the student night in Hot Shots, which was like on a Tuesday, quite often. I found that a bit mad."
The 'Cockle Man' at Jesters
Going back to discussing Jesters, Chris said he had been quite "confused" on a few occasions seeing a man walking around the nightclub selling fish.
Peter responded to say it was probably a 'Cockle Man' and it was a general thing where they used to go around pubs selling their wares.
Chris said: "I always thought it was an odd move, especially as a student nightclub, for the fish guy to be going around, but he must have been getting decent business.
"For want of a better phrase he's kind of fishing isn't he? Here's there but like with humans, it's almost reverse fishing isn't it?"
Following that Chris suggested that all three of them should go there on a night out together.
