A BMW driver has been caught parking on yellow zig-zags outside St Mary's Fire Station in Southampton

Police posted on social media on Thursday showing the BMW 116d parked next to the entrance to the fire station on Brinton's Road.

The force also said that the driver did not have insurance and was issued with a ticket.

In the post on Twitter, Hampshire Specials said: "If you're going to draw my attention by parking your vehicle on zig-zags outside St Mary's fire station, then you better make sure you actually have insurance!

"Ticket issued - six points and a fine will be on the way to the driver."

Bad parking outside St Mary's Fire Station has been a problem for years with station manager, Nev Lewendon, previously saying the issue is "worse than ever before".

He said: "It isn’t only drivers stopping by station exits and leaving their cars on our grounds, we are also impacted by cars parked opposite one another on certain roads, making those roads inaccessible.

"We are acutely aware of the difference that can be made in the safety of those who summon our help in being delayed even by such small amounts of time."
