TRAFFIC gridlock near Southampton docks is being blamed on extra security checks and the impact of the latest rail strike.
Drivers using key roads in the city centre have been caught up in long tailbacks following the arrival of four cruise ships.
Traffic is at a standstill on a number of routes near the waterfront.
Canute Road, Platform Road, Town Quay and West Quay Road are among the worst affected areas.
Motorists are being warned to plan their journeys ahead.
A city council spokesperson said: "The delays are due to extra security checks at the port along with train strikes.
"Border Force are carrying out impromptu security checks on all passengers which is slowing everything down and causing delays and congestion on the roads.
"We are yet to determine when these delays will ease, but all updates will be shared on our Twitter feed."
