Shirley, Southampton - How little and how much it has changed

The most recent was taken more than 70 years ago while the oldest was snapped well over a century past.

As well as pictures of Shirley there are also images of Upper Shirley and the area once known as Old Shirley.

Shops include Boots and Lipton's, while The Shirley Hotel pub is also featured – with only the latter of the three still there.

St James' Church – also known as Shirley Parish Church – had already been a feature for many years and dates back to 1836.
