TRAVELLERS have been spotted pitching up at a Southampton park.
Around 23 vehicles are currently parked at Mayfield Park in Woolston including caravans and cars.
One witness said travellers arrived at the site yesterday and that the police have been contacted.
Southampton City Council has since been made aware of the unauthorised encampment.
It said that its community safety team have completed "statutory welfare checks" with the travellers.
A spokesperson said: "The occupants have been verbally requested to leave the site.
"A report has been submitted to Active Nation who lease the land from Southampton City Council, with recommendations on how the site should be dealt with.
"Southampton City Council will work with partners, including the Police and the occupants of the encampment, to resolve this situation and reduce any impact on the community.
"Any reports of criminality or anti-social behaviour should be reported to the police.
"Please report any anti-social behaviour and/or criminality to the police on 101 or their web-based reporting facility."
Hampshire Constabulary added that officers have attended the site to assess the situation and are working with Active Nation and Southampton City Council to seek a "suitable resolution".
