A TEENAGER has suffered serious injuries after reports of a stabbing in a Southampton street. 

The 18-year-old man from Southampton was taken to hospital after an altercation involving a group of teenagers. 

Police were called at 6.32pm on Friday to reports of a person having been stabbed in Perran Road, Southampton. 

The force says the 18-year-old's injuries are serious but not life threatening. 

Redbridge councillor, Lee Whitbread said he saw the cordon as he travelled from work.

He said: "A large police presence has been deployed in the Millbrook area following unconfirmed reports of stabbings.

"Perran Road is closed to traffic while police officers taped off the area and secured the road.

"Clearly any reports of this nature are extremely concerning and cause anxiety in the community.

"Incidents such as these are extremely rare and I along with my Redbridge Councillor colleagues will be reaching out to Hampshire police to seek assurances on wider community safety.

"My thoughts are with the injured person or people and I would appeal to anyone with information to contact Hampshire Police."

Officers are currently investigating the circumstances around the incident.
