RESIDENTS have been left in shock after an 18-year-old man was stabbed in Millbrook.

Emergency services rushed to Perran Road at 6.32pm on Friday following reports of an altercation between a group of teenagers.

An 18-year-old man was stabbed and rushed to hospital.

He suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries.

Residents in the area have since spoken out about their shock following the "scary" incident.

One resident, a 39-year-old woman who has asked not to be named, lives on the neighbouring Kendal Avenue.

She said: "It's absolutely out of control.

"Apparently, it was a big group of kids, I don't understand what they could be fighting over for someone to end up stabbed.

"Why are there children carrying knives? It's never going to end, it's just getting worse.

"Police have been here all day, they taped all the road off yesterday and only residents are allowed past."

A 77-year-old lady, who has lived in the area for more than 30 years, said: "It's scary when it happens on your doorstep.

"You really don't expect it. I can't begin to imagine how the parents of the young man feel.

"I'm glad the police are taking this seriously."

Police closed Perran Road on Friday evening and it remained closed yesterday with two police cars and a van parked on the junction.

A number of police officers were also seen in the area.

Redbridge councillor, Lee Whitbread said he saw the cordon as he travelled from work.

He said: "A large police presence has been deployed in the Millbrook area following unconfirmed reports of stabbings.

"Perran Road is closed to traffic while police officers taped off the area and secured the road.

"Clearly any reports of this nature are extremely concerning and cause anxiety in the community.

"Incidents such as these are extremely rare and I along with my Redbridge Councillor colleagues will be reaching out to Hampshire police to seek assurances on wider community safety.

"My thoughts are with the injured person or people and I would appeal to anyone with information to contact Hampshire Police."
