SOUTHAMPTON has been named one of the UK's fast food capitals.

Data has revealed that there are 41 big brand fast food restaurants across the city, making it the ninth UK fast food capital in the UK.

Health experts at Now Patient have carried out research to reveal the areas of the country with the most fast food restaurants per 100,000 people.

It was revealed that Southampton has 16.7 fast food restaurants per 100,000 people.

Across the city there are six KFCs, 12 Subways, 11 McDonald's, 10 Burger Kings, and two Five Guys.

London has 4.9 fast food restaurants per 100,00 people, which is lower than any other city in the UK. Southend-on-Sea has the second lowest figure, with 7.1 per 100,000 people.

Newcastle Upon Tyne scooped the top spot with 27.5 fast food restaurants per 100,000 people.

There are a total of 53 fast food restaurants in Newcastle, 19 of which are Subways This was followed by Manchester and Belfast.
