A man has described the moment he opened his front door to find two people “covered in blood”.
The Shirley resident said he heard “loud screaming and shouting” just before 10pm on Friday.
When he stepped outside his house in Stafford Road, he found a man bleeding from his hand and arm and a woman with injuries to her face.
Speaking to the Echo, he said: “I came out to the front to see what was going on and I saw a couple out here. The man’s hand and arm were covered in blood, and she had a head injury.”

The man then called police but said the injured pair started walking towards Shirley High Street.
He said: “My guess was that they were trying to get out of the house.”
“I was afraid for their wellbeing,” he added.
The police arrived at the scene at around 10pm and arrested a 50-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder.
Officers say three people were stabbed in a number of serious assaults - a woman in her 20s, a man in his 20s and a man in his 50s.
The latter suffered injuries to his stomach.
All three were taken to hospital where they remain in a stable condition.
On Saturday, the property's front garden was cordoned off and officers wearing gloves were seen walking to and from the house carrying evidence bags.
Neighbours have spoken of their shock after waking up to police cars parked on their road.
One resident who asked not to be named said: “I got home (on Friday) evening and there were a load of police cars outside and there are still one or two cars today (Saturday).
“I’m not sure what happened but it must be serious because they got the tape around the house.”
