A TEENAGER attacked in Eastleigh was rushed to hospital after suffering multiple puncture wounds.

Police say the 17-year-old victim received several injuries to his neck, leg and back in the incident, which happened at Parnell Road, Eastleigh, next to Grantham Green Park at around 2pm today.

A Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance was sent to the area and landed in the park.

The casualty was given emergency first aid at the scene before being taken to University Hospital Southampton by road in an ambulance.

Police have not released any further information about the victim, the type of weapon used, or what may have led up to the incident.

A large part of the park was sealed off for several hours as officers searched for any evidence that could aid the investigation.

Part of a nearby alleyway between Shelly Road and Tennyson Road was also cordoned off as part of the inquiry and officers were stationed at the scene and on patrol in the area.

The incident has sparked widespread concern in the community.

A 41-year-old woman with five children said: "We're worried about our safety and our kids. We need more police officers."

Another resident added: "We also need better lighting in the park and CCTV."

A father of two said: "The police were here when I came home from work. My kids go to this park all the time so obviously I'm worried about their safety now."

A police spokesperson said: "We received a report from our colleagues at South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS) of a serious assault on Parnell Road in Eastleigh at around 2.05pm.

"A teenage boy was located with a number of puncture wounds to his neck, leg and back. He has since been taken to hospital for treatment.

"We are continuing to carry out enquiries in relation to this incident."

A SCAS spokesperson confirmed an air ambulance was sent to the incident, adding: "The critical care team of a doctor and specialist paramedic provided medical treatment to a patient who was conveyed by road to hospital.

"The air ambulance team travelled with the patient to continue providing treatment."

Grantham Green Park, which includes a children's play area, is bordered by Parnell Road and three other streets. The area is mainly residential but boasts several schools.
