WITH tens of thousands of revellers heading to the Isle of Wight for some sold out festi-fun this weekend, we give you an idea of all the family fun to be had for those left behind!
Aboard SS Shieldhall...
One of the ‘sounds of the summer’ is about to be unleashed on Southampton Water and the Solent as Southampton’s heritage steamship, SS Shieldhall, commences her 2023 public sailing programme.
Shieldhall’s distinctive steam whistle, redolent of a bygone age, will once again sound out, heralding her first sailing of the season on Friday (June 16).
Shieldhall has three public sailings over the course of the weekend. On Saturday, there's a trip to Portsmouth Harbour followed by a Father's Day All Things Steam cruise to the Solent on Sunday.
As part of a Shieldhall cruise, guests get to see the impressive engine room with its original triple-expansion steam engines at work and the bridge, with its traditional instruments and gleaming brasswork; admire the ship’s steam assisted steering gear (similar to that used on Titanic); talk to the captain and crew; listen to the commentary passing the sights of Southampton Water and the Solent; pass close to the great ocean liners, cruise ships and container vessels; walk the teak decks; relax in the saloon with a wide range of refreshments including tea and coffee, real ale, a range of Titanic Ales, wine and hot and cold food.
Children are not forgotten with an interactive Shieldhall Passport, which encourages the collection of stickers from various stations on board.

At Theatre Royal Winchester...
On Saturday, Theatre Royal Winchester is looking forward to hosting two sing-along versions of family-favourites, musicals Encanto and The Greatest Showman.
Encanto tells the story of the Madrigals – an extraordinary family who live hidden in the mountains of Colombia in a charmed place called the Encanto, which has blessed every child in the family with a unique gift… except daughter Mirabel! However, Mirabel may be the Madrigals’ last hope when she discovers that the magic surrounding the Encanto is now in danger – and it is she who tries to save that magic.
Meanwhile, The Greatest Showman tells the story of famous showman, P.T. Barnum, whose hired circus performers – including a bearded lady and a dwarf – face discrimination; while his tour with a famous singer, celebrated by the aristocracy, sees him neglect his family and distance himself from his troupe. But, a fire that destroys his circus inspires him to rethink his life, build a new show with the performers and spend time with his loved ones.
The theatre’s special screenings of Encanto and The Greatest Showman not only feature each film’s song lyrics on-screen for audiences to sing-along with, but a live host who will teach the audience dance moves to re-enact during the screening. Plus, a free props bag. Fancy dress is encouraged!

The Custom and American Show returns on Father's Day with hundreds of cool American motors, colourful custom cars and bikes, live music and hip entertainment throughout the day.
Held in association with the Solent Renegades club, and celebrating the truly individual creations of the motoring world, expect a stunning display of American motors at the heart of the show.
From classic Camaros to modern Mustangs, can you spot your dream car? Look out for jaw-dropping custom cars, bikes and trikes, and hot rods, as they take their places in the diverse line-up.
Legendary custom car builder and Custom and American Show ambassador Andy Saunders will be returning to the show, along with his latest creation, Deja.
Get your feet tapping to brilliant music throughout the day, as the Honky Tonk Angels and Rooster take to the stage to perform rousing tunes.
There will be a Father's Day competition and face painting will be free of charge to show-goers.

The Southampton Big Green Event is a fun day out designed to support the public in their quest to live and work more sustainably for the good of themselves, their families, and their community.
Now in its second year, the event will once again bring together the people, organisations, experts, and solutions that will help us all to make a difference in our city and surrounding county. The event will also host an Advice Hub covering various current topics and a co-event Big Green Wheels - the region's largest clean transport showcase.
It's an event for all ages and for families to enjoy from 11am on Saturday (June 17).
