Lorry driver dies after crash into traffic lights in Southampton

Police were called to the incident at 5.45am on Thursday after the white HGV crashed on the A33 at Town Quay. 

But despite the best efforts of emergency services, the driver, a 40-year-old man from Bournemouth was pronounced dead. 

He was rushed to hospital after help from members of the public where he died.

His family have been made aware and are being supported by specialist officers. 

Police are now appealing for witnesses to the collision. 

A spokesperson said: "We are now asking for anyone with information about the collision who has not already spoken to the police to come forward.

"Were you in the area at the time? Perhaps you saw a white HGV leaving the Red Funnel Port in the run-up to the collision?

"We would particularly like to speak to anyone with relevant dash cam footage.
