EMERGENCY 999 calls in Hampshire were not going through due to a national problem this morning, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed.
Around 9am, Inspector Matt Moss, the Force Incident Manager in the police control room, said: "Our colleagues at BT are having significant systems issues this morning and as things stand the 999 system would appear to be completely down, albeit some calls may get through. This is a nationwide issue and not specific to Hampshire.
"For the time being we will be prioritising emergency calls on 101. Please only call us in the event of an emergency.
"You can also still use our online reporting tools here: https://www.hampshire.police.uk/ro/report/
"If your need is medical then the 111 system is still functioning.
"As soon as we have a better update we will come back to you - and please note that whilst we will try and monitor the comments we cannot take crime reports or contact via social media at this time."
At 9.30am, police confirmed that the calls were now working.
