A POLICE cordon is still up as the search for a missing mum and newborn baby enters a second week.

A path along Holly Brook off Dale Road remains taped off five days after a human placenta was discovered by a 15-year-old boy on his way to school.

Over the weekend officers confirmed the placenta was indeed human after a number of tests confirmed the opinion of a medical expert.

Four police vehicles remain parked in the area today, including a van from Hampshire Police Federation.

Dozens of officers were deployed to the scene last Thursday, a day after the sad discovery, to scour the area and look for clues.

Chief Inspector Marcus Kennedy has been appealing for the "person who may have given birth without support to please make contact with either police or our NHS colleagues".

He added that police remain "increasingly concerned for the welfare of the mother and the child".

Anyone with information should call 101, quoting reference incident 1723 of 25/06/23 or report online quoting OP HOLDO.
