A BELOVED barbershop brand is going from strength to strength, opening a second Southampton site and launching a virtual shop as part of its ongoing expansion.
Gents Barber Club, previously known as Gents@27 thanks to the location of its first premises, launched in Botley just prior to the first Covid lockdown.
The welcoming shop has defied the odds, reopening following the various pandemic closures and restrictions that so heavily impacted hairdressing salons and barbershops, and now expanding its operation during the cost of living crisis currently hitting the nation hard.
A second shop, in Hedge End, is on the way and the firm has embraced technology and opened a Spotify shop, which allows a range of products to be purchased online as a one off or as part of a subscription service.
The early beginnings of the business were first featured in the Daily Echo in August 2019 when Mark Powell, the businessman behind Wessex Cleaning Equipment and the owner of various properties in the area, said he would like to make the business dreams of one would-be entrepreneur a reality.
He hoped to breathe new life into his latest distinctive acquisition, the former Elise's Tea Rooms site at 27 High Street Botley.
After impressing with his business proposition, experienced barber Matt Stringer became the face of the firm, which has flourished in the last few years under his control and now boasts five barbers.

Matt, on the left, and Mark (right) were pictured taking over their new premises, the former Mr Pizza shop in Hedge End village, last week.
When completed, it will be larger than the original flagship premises with a total of eight chairs and a more modern feel, in keeping with the look of the building in the St John's Centre.
Gents Barber Club is looking for new talent to join the team as they expand.
Customers will continue to be assured of a top-notch grooming experience at either shop, or when purchasing from the firm's innovative online platform, which promises high-quality haircare products that do not cost the earth.
