FIRE CREWS remained at the scene of a fire at a scrapyard late last night after “scaling back” the blaze.
A fire broke out at a scrapyard on Western Avenue as puffs of black smoke billowed around Southampton Docks, shortly after 9pm on Friday night.
Taking to social media in the early hours of the morning, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service stated: “The scrapyard fire in Western Avenue, Southampton has now been scaled back with some crews remaining at the scene to damp down.”

Many residents were quick to capture footage of the blaze, with reports of people smelling smoke from the fire across the city, with some as far away as Shirley.
The fire service had urged residents to avoid the area.
