A Southampton community festival set to happen this weekend has been cancelled.

TriFest, a community festival set to take place at Riverside Park this Saturday, has been cancelled due to the weather forecast.

The free community event was set to include music performances and have stalls for face paintings, crafts, plants, food and games.

The announcement was made on the event's Twitter page.

The weather forecast for Saturday to Monday is persistent rain, at times heavy, according to the Met Office.

Windy conditions, with the risk of coastal gales, are also expected.

In a statement on social media, the community festival announced: “SORRY. IT'S OFF.

“At this late stage, it's a tough decision to take, but with the level of wind and rain, predicted it's not safe to continue.

“Feeling really sorry for all the musicians, stallholders and volunteers who worked so hard, but these things happen.”

The event is already in talks with Southampton City Council to reschedule the festival for later this summer.
