Seven men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after two people were found with serious injuries in Shirley.

Police were called to Shirley Road shortly after 11pm yesterday after receiving a report of a man with stab wounds.

The 30-year-old was found nearby with a serious injury to his left-hand side.

Police were then informed that a second man had also been injured.

The second victim, also aged 30, suffered a serious injury to the left-hand side of his body.

Both were rushed to hospital where they remain in a serious condition.

Police have not revealed where the pair were found but part of Dyer Road was cordoned off this morning, with residents reporting being woken up by shouting.

Amira Lounge in Foyes Corner was also cordoned off.

Officers have arrested seven men, all from Southampton, on suspicion of attempted murder.

Two of them are aged 34 while the rest are 23, 25, 33, 39 and 44.

They all remain in police custody.

Southampton Superintendent Phil Lamb said: “We would like to reassure the local community that we are working hard to establish the circumstances surrounding this incident today, and our enquiries in the area are ongoing.

“While reports of this nature are understandably concerning, we do not believe there to be any wider risk to the general public at the current time.

“You will see an increased police presence in the area today as officers continue conducting enquiries, please do come and speak to them if you have any questions or concerns.
