The organiser of a meet and greet in Southampton has described the behaviour of attendees as "unacceptable" after it was likened to a riot.

Youtuber Snowy Joe of ‘DROPOUTS’ has addressed the backlash the event received after dozens of teenagers were seen charging through Westquay shopping centre on Friday.

Some were also seen throwing chairs from Bella Italia into the road while others were filmed chanting ‘raid Primark’ outside the shop in Above Bar Street.

Portswood resident Maggie Rickards was travelling onboard the number two bus when it was pelted by what is believed to be smoke bombs.

In a video posted on social media platform TikTok, Snowy Joe said he did not expect these events to unfold.

He said: “I've got to hold some sort of accountability because obviously we did start this meet and greet.

“But we didn't know all these people were going to turn up.

“I had no control over the smoke bombs that were thrown.

“I had no control over the chairs, about the raids, no control whatsoever.

“Listen guys, I love the support from all of you, but what happened that day was absolutely unacceptable.

“All we wanted to do was just do a simple meet and greet, take photos, but it went a bit crazy, and it just stops us from doing that again.”

Hampshire Constabulary has confirmed no arrests have been made, however, "this incident is being investigated and our enquiries are ongoing".

"Officers will be patrolling in the city centre, and people can speak to them if they have any issues or concerns," a spokesperson said.

Police confirmed on Friday that they were looking through CCTV footage to identify those involved.

Southampton Chief Inspector Marcus Kennedy reassured members of the public that the behaviour would not be tolerated after calling the incident "totally unacceptable".

On Friday, he said: “We know that this behaviour will have been intimidating and disruptive to those in the area this afternoon, including businesses, staff and members of the public and want to reassure you that this won’t be tolerated by police.

“We have a number of officers and dedicated resources in the city centre and its surroundings following these reports and our enquiries will be focused on identifying the main perpetrators.”
