MORE than £1,000 has been raised ahead of a charity football match in aid of former Saints player and manager, Chris Nicholl.
The 76-year-old former centre-back who made 228 appearances for the Saints is receiving long-term-residential care after being diagnosed with dementia.
The charity match, taking place at AFC Totton's Snows Stadium, aims to help fund his ongoing care needs.
At the time of writing, £1,085 had been raised via a JustGiving page ahead of the game which will see ex Saints players take on Saints Archive members on August 20.

Kick-off is at 3pm with no entrance fee, but donation buckets will be on the gates and will be brought round during the match.
The organisers said: "This should be a wonderful family afternoon in support of a man who gave SFC & us supporters over 12 years of his footballing career.
"Hope as many as possible can come along to join in and support the event, being organised by Saints Archive, Ex-Saints and supported by AFC Totton."
