Why are food hygiene ratings used?
Food hygiene ratings serve as a crucial tool in the UK to ensure the safety and quality of food establishments.
They provide consumers with essential information about the hygiene standards of restaurants, cafes, and canteens, allowing them to make informed decisions when dining out.
These ratings are determined through rigorous inspections conducted by trained food safety officers, who assess various aspects such as food handling, cleanliness, and management practices.
Ratings range from 0, indicating an urgent need for improvement, to 5, representing excellent practices.
A higher rating indicates that an establishment has demonstrated strong hygiene practices, reducing the risk of foodborne illnesses and promoting public health.
