Dozens of people gathered at the cricket field in Netley Abbey to pay tribute to a motorcyclist who died in a crash in Southampton.

Friends and relatives of George Milton organised the event in memory of the popular 19-year-old.

They gathered on the field on Saturday afternoon to release red balloons "as a celebration of George's life".

Everyone who attended was invited to wear red.

George, who lived in Eastleigh, died in hospital following a crash in Portswood Road in the early hours of Monday.

Marcel Cullers, managing director of Security Nation, where George worked for nearly two years, described his former employee as "one of the funniest, lovable guys who would do anything for you".

Dozens of people, including strangers, signed a book of condolence set up in his name.

In a statement, his family said they were "overwhelmed" by all the tributes following the "devastating" news.

They said: "George was loved by many. He was very caring and affectionate, and he lived life to the max. George will be forever young.

"We will love you forever."

On Wednesday, a fundraiser for the 19-year-old’s funeral was set up to help the family cope with the costs.

The Go Fund Me page says George’s sudden death "sent a shockwave" through his family and friends and appealed for anyone who may be able to donate.

It has so far raised more than £1,500 from 82 donations.

The fundraiser said: "It is just so unfair that Anita and Steve have to find the funds to cover the cost of their son George's funeral alone with no help as he is over 18 (George now 19).

"With the average cost being around £5,000 and the least we can do is pull together to show them some love and support to lift the burden from them at this tough time, especially with them having to take time off of work to process the devastating shock."

The crash remains under investigation and police would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or the moments leading up to it who has not already come forward.

A spokesperson said: "If you have any information, please report online via our website, or call 101, quoting reference 44230327533."
