Sony's sports bar in Shirley damaged in brick attack

Bricks were thrown at Sony's cafe bar and bistro lounge in Shirley Road, smashing three glass panels and causing £2,000 worth of damage.

Nearby residents heard the culprits shouting the owner's name while launching the bricks towards his business at around 4am yesterday (Monday August 21).

It's not the first time Shiv Darshan has been targeted since opening the popular sports bar in November. 

Shiv, whose nickname is Sony, said he suffered various injuries when he was set upon as he closed the bar late at night a few weeks ago.

He is now fearful for the safety of his wife and five-year-old son. 

Shiv told the Daily Echo: "They could attack me again and I'm very worried for my five-year-old. They're trying to damage me. I fear for the security of me and my family and for the future of my bar. 

"Two weeks ago, I was attacked when I closed the bar on a Friday night. They punched me and kicked me and I'm still in pain with my shoulder. I need to have another x-ray. 

"They just keep on harassing me.

"They know where my cameras are and can't be seen on them, but I'm hoping other cameras on Shirley Road will have picked them up this time. 

"I'm really hoping the police will be able to take action."

Sony's opened for business at the end of last year following an eight month labour of love. 

Shiv, who used to be a construction worker, did all the building work and decorating himself.

Along with TV screens, the venue features three pool tables, a chess table and a fruit machine.

There is seating for 60 people inside, some in VIP booths, and about 35 people can be accommodated outside. 

A spokesman confirmed that Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary are investigating a report of criminal damage at the property.
