Emergency services attended an incident at Weston Shore after dark.
Police were called at around 9pm on Thursday evening due to 'concern for the welfare of a man' near the waterfront.
Officers were sent to the area and the coastguard was alerted at 9.15pm.

Coastguard rescue teams from Hill Head and Portsmouth were called out and helped officers search for the man, who is in his 50s.
The man was found not long after, at 9.45pm.
A red flare was also spotted being sent up in the area at the time - but the coastguard confirmed it was not connected to this incident.
