A PHOTOGRAPHY enthusiast has captured close-ups of cruise ship Disney Dream as it set sail from Southampton.

John Borg was travelling to and from Fawley on the Hythe Ferry yesterday when he captured the cruise ship leaving the port in all its splendour.

The 30-year-old budding photographer said: “I saw it three times, once on my way to Hythe and then on my way home. Then I knew if I went to Weston Shore, I’d be able to capture it again.

“When I see the first photo, I think they could use it for an advert.

“We were on the ferry and the waves from two funnel boats meant we had to go closer to the Disney cruise so it was a really unique opportunity.”

John, who lives in Mansbridge, took the first photos just after 12 o'clock using his phone.

“The darker photos were when it was going out to sea, that was around 5 o’clock,” he said.

“I got there around 4.50pm, so I waited about 11 minutes.

“It played several pieces with her horn such as Wish Upon a Star and that’s when she started pulling out.”

The amateur photographer says taking pictures has been his hobby since his late nan passed in May 2020 with Covid.

“I do it all on my mobile phone.

“I go above and beyond to get shots.”

Disney Dream was built in 2011 and carries 4,000 passengers and 1,458 crew.

The ship weighs 130,000 gross tonnes and is 1,115 feet long with 1,250 cabins.

The cruise that set sail on Sunday will return back to Southampton on September 10, after visiting Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Oslo and Stavanger.

The musical horns on Disney cruise ships all sound different - Disney Wish, Magic and Wonder all use real horns to play music.

Disney Dream and Fantasy use speakers but this does not disappoint as music could also be heard by John sat at Weston Shore.
