From a live music takeover to a neon run at nighttime, there's something for everyone in and around Southampton this weekend.

Here's our pick of five of the best things to do and places to go for family fun on Saturday and Sunday.

Music in the City...

Daily Echo: A Southampton Allstars Performance for Music in the City

It will see 800 performers from 150 acts playing music in interesting and unusual venues around Southampton.

The 15th edition of the free family-friendly live music event Music in the City could be the biggest ever.

Celebrating the wonderful diversity of musical talent from the Solent area, audiences can expect everything from Rock to Jazz, Classical to Americana and Folk to Blues popping up anywhere and everywhere.

The bulk of the programme takes place on Saturday (September 23) with professional and amateur musicians performing in historic hotspots including 13th Century gatehouse God's House Tower, King John's Palace, 700-year-old Dancing Man Brewery, and some of the city's  vaults.

The line-up for the now traditional finale gig from Southampton AllStars, featturing musicians who have played with the likes of George Michael, Sting, Diana Ross, Gary Numan, The Eagles and Sheryl Crow, has now been finalised for Sunday.

Dash in the Dark...

Daily Echo: Dash in the Dark 2022

A popular night-time charity fun run around Southampton Common, which encourages participants to light up the night with their brightest clothes, funkiest fancy dress, neon face-paints and fluorescent glow-sticks, takes place on Saturday night.

Dash in the Dark, which raises vital funds for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, hopes to top the £21,000 raised by 500 participants last year. That's enough to fund six emergency missions.

Runners and walkers of all ages can take part in this family-friendly event, with every penny raised helping the charity to treat the most critically ill patients in the region.

Participants will include patients who have first-hand experience of needing the life-saving skills of the air ambulance crew.
